I’m working with the Apostle’s Creed for a series we’re starting this Sunday at SaviorCC. I came across this beautiful, thoughtful exposition of the first line of the Creed in the Heidleberg Catechism:

What do you believe when you say: “I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth”?

That the eternal Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who out of nothing created heaven and earth with all that is in them, who also upholds and governs them by his eternal counsel and providence, is for the sake of Christ his Son my God and my Father. I trust in him so completely that I have no doubt that he will provide me with all things necessary for body and soul. Moreover, whatever evil he sends upon me in this troubled life he will turn to my good, for he is able to do it, being almighty God, and is determined to do it, being a faithful Father.

Able and determined.

Last week I posted a plea looking for 20 friends to join me in donating $50 each to World Vision so we could change 20 lives together. Every $50 donation provides water for one person for one generation in Africa (and other parts of the world). Almost every time I tell someone that figure, they ask me to repeat it and clarify. It’s true!

So far, in response to that email and post, about 12 kids’ lives have been changed! As of now, over $635 has come in since I sent/posted that message! How dare you be so awesome?

I’m looking for 8 more people join me, but this time I’m asking that you direct your donations to one of the other 14 runners on Team SaviorCC! I’ve already reached my personal fundraising goals, but other runners are struggling to do so. All the donations go to World Vision, but giving through one of the other runners would be a huge encouragement to them. Donate to a team member here.

On March 24th I will be running in the NYC 13.1, a 13.1 mile race benefitting Team World Vision. I’m running to raise money for World Vision’s water projects.

From World Vision:

In the developing world, women and children walk an average of six kilometers to collect water for their families…

A majority of these women and children’s time is spent getting water. They could otherwise be working at their house, building a small business, or going to school. But instead, the lack of clean water causes poverty to persist.

Poverty isn’t the only result of inaccessible water. The water that women and children walk hours to get is often dirty and diseased.

This is a problem we can fix, at least for some.

Every $50 donation will provide water for one person for one generation in Africa.

With that in mind, I’m donating $50 to World Vision today ($25 to myself and $25 Team SaviorCC) and I’m looking for 20 friends to match it. That is $1050, which means 21 children will never have to worry about water again. 21 people will have clean, easily accessible water. That is why I run! Who’s with me?

In August, I and my friend Jason started training for our first half-marathon. We’re running with a purpose. We’re part of Team World Vision, an organization that is dedicated to providing sources of clean water to thirsty people in Africa and Haiti. I’m told, every $50 that I run to raise will provide water for life for a child in Africa. My minimum goal is to raise enough money to provide water for 13 people-one person per mile I’ll be running.

This past Saturday we completed our first 11 mile run. We killed it. It suffered and died under the fury of our feet and begged for death before the end. Felt awesome. Our training is going great, but it will go even better if I knew we had your support and encouragement!

It is easy to make a donation on my behalf, or on behalf of any of the members of Team SaviorCC. Even the smallest donations are welcome and appreciated. $50 donations are awesome. Even a $5, $10, or $25 donation would make my day and make our next training run all the more meaningful.

As always, prayer for our team is important to us and appreciated. If you pray, please ask for injury-free training for the whole team. Pray for our fundraising efforts. Pray for the children and villages that will be blessed by the water our running helps to provide!

True worship must involve our whole being. Mind, heart and will must harmonize to magnify His name. We must praise Him with understanding, so we shall not encourage mindless ditties. Exhortations to “try to lift the roof off this time” have more to do with FA Cup finals than worship, and to be told to “sing it as though you really mean it” is sacrilege. What is the difference between that and an outright invitation to be hypocrites? If any worship leader feels he has to make such a request, then everyone has already missed the point of worshipping in truth. A careless mental attitude prevents true worship.
